Grid Works

This body of work demonstrates an enduring fascination with gestural abstraction as a means to apprehend the unpredictability of personal growth and connection. While my past landscape paintings were primarily gestural, my parallel interest in geometric structures evolved through studying systems found in nature—such as Sacred Geometry, frequencies, vibrations, and platonic solids. This integration of organic gesture with underlying geometric order creates a meaningful dialogue in my current practice.

The integration of gestural abstraction with underlying grid structures reflects my ongoing fascination with how natural systems and sacred geometry can visually express the unpredictable nature of personal growth and connection.

LARGE GRID WORKS

The dimensions of the paintings—approximately 44 inches by 56 inches—correspond directly to the my physical reach, from fingertip to fingertip. This underscores a deep connection between physical movement and the paintings.

The size and scale of the paintings bring the viewer into the my physical realm, offering an immersive experience where the body is both the subject and the tool. These works blur the line between the my physical form and the artwork, allowing the viewer to engage not just with the visual aesthetics, but with my presence as it is manifest through each mark, gesture, and stroke.

MEDIUM GRID WORKS

MULBERRY WORKS

The works on mulberry paper were an experiment and a direct result of an action taken while working in the studio. One day during a painting session, an area had become too heavy with paint. A thought popped into my mind…what if I use a piece of mulberry paper to blot this area of the painting - what might I get? The semi-transparent and absorbent quality of the mulberry worked well as I lifted it away, an impression remained – a print. This new direction and discovery is part of my process and when it happens, it feels serendipitous. It lead to new imagery on mulberry - an abstraction of abstraction.

SMALL GRID PAINTINGS

Smaller works range between 9”x12” and 8”x11” - Working at this size is fairly quick and a good way to process ideas and concepts in succession. I wanted to modify both the grid size, layout, color and dominance. By making many small works, various options resulted in a way that way freed up intuitive judgement, they could not have been planned.

ARTIFACT GRIDS

Artifact Grid drawings are a series of works that carry an intimate and revered quality. Inspired by Sacred Geometry, their small scale and modest presence evoke the feeling of artifacts, where each drawing is imbued with deeper meaning and history. The meditative nature of these works offers a contrast to the larger, more dynamic paintings, creating a subtle balance—similar to a yin-yang effect. The act of making them is a quiet, contemplative process, emphasizing the reflective energy they exude.
